NSA phone searches increased by 50 percent in 2013, report finds 4/3
In this article, it talks about how the National Security Agency's phone-data surveillance program went up by 50% last year in the number of phone numbers searched. The Director of National Intelligence talks about how the network of surveillance programs sweep up millions of American phone records and get indirect access to 75% of the nation's telecom infrastructure to do those searches.
